John Strittmatter founded the 1st Lions team in 2010 wining the Maryland State Youth Football Championship for the Unlimited Division at M&T Bank Stadium. In 2011 the team returned to M&T Bank Stadium to defend its Championship.
In 2013 John Strittmatter and the Lions merged with Tony Ashley, former President and Coach of the Columbia Ravens who culminated several years of winning MMYFC Super Bowls by winning the 2010 Maryland Youth State Football Championship for the 11-13 National Division at M&T Bank Stadium. President Ashley's Columbia Ravens returned the following year to again win the 2011 Maryland Youth State Football Championship under the coaching of Tim Stull for the 11-13 National Division at M&T Bank Stadium.
Coach Ashley and Coach Strittmatter did not disappoint in the 2013 Season. The Lions went on to win another Maryland Youth State Youth Football Championship Title in the Unlimited Division at M&T Bank Stadium.
The Lions have over 30 years of football experience including playing at the collegiate level. Lion's coaches have coached every aspect of youth football up to and including High School for Nationally ranked programs.
Your child will be coached like they are in high school and will be exposed to local high school coaches.
Several high school coaches from prominent programs will attend many of our practices and likely all of our games.
The current Lions union has sent players onto play at Good Counsel,Gonzaga, St. John's, Georgetown Prep, Dematha, Gilman, Mt. St. Joes, McDonough, Calvert Hall, Loyola, Landon, Bullis, O'Connell and Spalding. There are many former players that have gone on to become All-County players for their local High School.
We will prepare your son to play at the next level and have the trust of the high school coaches that Lion's players come prepared to play high school football.
Many of our coaches have gone through this themselves.
We typically start practice 3-4 weeks before the first game and go 3-4 times per week to get them ready. Our practices run about 2 hours long. After the first game, we try to limit practice to just twice a week. We can assure you that not only will Lions players be prepared for football at the next level, but excel in the class room as well. Most of our 8th graders are tutored for the High School Placement Test. We however don't stop there. There have been many situations where the Lions have provided tutors for specific classes for the benefit of their student athletes.
Your child will have the most enjoyable season of football yet and learn life lessons that will carry forward for many years to come
